Working together for better outcomes
Corrections Services
TIAKI TANGATA
Tiaki Tangata is delivered by a team of highly skilled facilitators with extensive expertise in supporting individuals to successfully reintegrate into the community.
Our services encompass the facilitation of violence prevention programs, collaboration with community probation services, and contributions as a member of the New Zealand Parole Board.
WHY CHOOSE TIAKI TANGATA
The Tiaki Tangata Reintegration Service supports individuals nearing release by offering assistance at select prisons and Community Probations Service centres. This service helps participants access training and employment opportunities, secure suitable accommodation, and establish connections with whānau and community groups for ongoing support and successful reintegration.
HOKAI TAPUWAE KAUPAPA MĀORI KORERO
Our Hokai Tapuwae Kaupapa Māori Korero Service is dedicated to enhancing outcomes for Māori offenders by reconnecting them with their cultural heritage and whānau networks, fostering motivation to reduce re-offending.
Our Cultural Assessor builds a rapport with individuals on the programme to assess their cultural well-being as a Māori and identify areas where cultural interventions may help them to develop healthier, more sustainable life choices.
Where?
WACT currently facilitates these services in the following locations:
- Waikeria Prison
- Hamilton Community
- Thames Community
- Spring Hill Corrections Facility
TIKANGA WANANGA
The WACT Tikanga Māori Motivational Programme is an immersive, group-based initiative delivered over three nights and four days at the marae. Grounded in Māori philosophy, values, knowledge, and practices, the programme seeks to strengthen and revitalise Māori identity and cultural values.
Designed to enhance participant's motivation, the programme encourages thoughtful reflection on the underlying causes of offending behaviors. It also fosters a deeper interest in cultural interventions that support long-term rehabilitation and reduce the risk of reoffending.
