The Kaupapa of this Qualification is to provide Tauira with a tohu who are already or are passionate in supporting kuia, koroua and their whanau, hapu, iwi and hapori. This Qualification also provides a pathway for those considering employment in this area of aged care.
Here at Wera Training Centre, Tauira will be introduced to and develop an in-depth understanding of whanau-centred approaches when caring for kuia, koroua. We will be delivering the programme through the application and exploration of experiences underpinned by whanaungatanga, te pono me te tika, kaitiakitanga, pukengatanga, manaakitanga and rangatiriatanga for Maori in a Whanau ora setting.
Over the duration of this course our Tauira will be able to:
• Communicate effectively with kuia, koroua and their extended whanau
• Identify and apply legislation relevant to effective delivery of health services to kuia and koroua
• Provide advocacy support within health and community services for kuia, koroua
• Provide effective resolution and decision-making skills to assist with key health and community services for kuia, koroua
• Identify and understand risks and trends that impact on the health needs and aspirations of kuia, koroua and their extended whanau.

It is important that maori values, tikanga, kawa and a whanau approach lead us along the pathway of tika me te pono when caring for our kuia and koroua.
